Few images of my last project I did for my 2nd year @ Uni studying Interior Architecture & Design:
The site of Dreamland in
Margate has been used for traditional British seaside
entertainment since 1867. Dreamland is situated on the frontage onto
Margate’s Marine Terrace and the main, sandy beach.
Margate’s Dreamland once contained an
active amusement park, entertainment complexes, large, ball rooms bars,
cinemas, a bingo hall and cafes / restaurants, even a shopping mall.
The intention of the regeneration
of Dreamland is to recreate a meantime visitor attraction. This scheme is set
to restore and renew the ground floor and basement of dreamland to benefit
public use by designing a small-scale theatre and restaurant// bar in an
existing building.
Using Kinetic energy to power
the mediating façade to sing. With the benefit of the seaside winds coming in
from West North West (WNW. The prime precedent The Singing Ringing Tree by
Mike Tonkin and Anna Liu (2006)Sound is produced by the
vibration of an air-stream blowing across the 100mm diameter metallic open hole
of the cylindrical
shaped tubes. The length of the tube
determines the fundamental sound frequency. Using repetition of cylindrical pillars
throughout the building, these are arranged across a grid, the symmetrical
forms have a way of defining spaces and allowing users to experience the space
in a playful and special way such as seating, tables and mini thresholds. The
columns are laid out in a perfect square grid some are clustered together while
others act as a path to different functions of the building. The forest like atmosphere
acts as some sort of spatial orientation where the public can weave in and out
of these slender 3m tall pillars.
